The association for dramaturges in the Netherlands

On January 1st, 2026, the Motorisch Moment (MoMo) association was officially established: the first Dutch professional association for dramaturgs.

A growing group of dramaturgs in the Dutch and Flemish fields have long been concerned about the position of dramaturgy. Whereas the discipline has long had a natural place in the artistic process, it is now under pressure due to financial circumstances, changing creative practices, and a lack of visibility. At the same time, dramaturgs almost always work as soloists, creating a clear need for mutual contact, peer review, and knowledge sharing.

In the spring of 2025, a large group of dramaturgs gathered at the University Theater in Amsterdam. By a large majority, they decided to establish an association, inspired by professional associations in Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, as well as ACT, the interest group for actors. Several preparatory meetings followed in the course of 2025, including during the Theater Festival (TF).

The statutory objective of the Motorisch Moment Association is to promote solidarity among professionals within the field of dramaturgy and to represent their interests, thereby strengthening the visibility and position of dramaturgy in the performing arts field. Based on this objective, MoMo will develop activities such as peer review sessions, a buddy network, international exchanges, and collaboration with professional training programs and professional associations.
